Borrowed Voices
When activated, the Ring of Borrowed Voices resonates with faint echoes of unfamiliar speech. The wearer does not learn new words—instead, meaning is carried through the ring itself, shaping sound and understanding in equal measure.
While this effect is active, the wearer may choose one creature they can see or have seen within the last 24 hours. The wearer can understand and speak one language known by that creature. Both comprehension and speech are mediated by the ring; the wearer understands their own spoken words as the ring translates meaning in real time.
This effect may be triggered at any point and requires no action. The spell requires concentration, which is maintained by the ring, not the wearer. The effect lasts until dismissed, replaced, or the ring’s concentration is broken.
All languages must be languages known by creatures the wearer has encountered. The wearer does not retain knowledge of these languages once the effect ends—the voices fade, leaving behind only the memory of borrowed meaning.
Scaling Effect
As the ring channels greater power, it can sustain multiple voices at once:
1st Level: +1 additional language
3rd Level: +2 additional language
5th Level: +2 additional languages
7th Level: +2 additional languages
9th Level: +3 additional languages
