Summoning

Often the first spell learned by novice necromancers, this spell creates a loyal undead familiar from the remains of an ordinary beast. You target the remains of a beast of challenge rating 1/8 or less and imbue it with a foul mimicry of life, raising it as an undead creature. The target gains the statistics it had in life, except its creature type becomes undead, it gains the ability Undead Fortitude as if it were a zombie, and its wisdom and charisma scores both become 7 (-2). When you cast this spell, the familiar gains 5 temporary hit points. The creature mimics the behaviors of its living counterpart, such as a raven preening its wings or a dog wagging its tail, but it does not retain any memory of its former life nor does it require food, water, air, or sleep.

Your familiar acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, it rolls its own initiative and acts on its own turn. A familiar can't attack unless commanded by a spell such as Dying Grasp, but it can take other actions as normal.

When the familiar drops to 0 hit points, it reverts to a corpse and can be reanimated once again by casting this spell.

You can command your familiar to perform a specific course of action if the directions are given in meticulous detail. You can also command the familiar to look out for approaching creatures or for a particular kind of creature. In either case, after completing its task or detecting something, if the familiar is less than 1 mile away from you, an unnatural chill runs down your spine.

You can't have more than one familiar at a time. If you cast this spell while you already have a familiar, your previous undead familiar immediately reverts to a corpse.

Finally, when you cast a spell with a range of touch, your familiar can deliver the spell as if it had cast the spell. Your familiar must be within 100 feet of you, and it must use its reaction to deliver the spell when you cast it. If the spell requires an attack roll, you use your attack modifier for the roll.
