You invoke an abyssal theorem that life may be siphoned across distance through knowledge and memory.
Choose one creature you personally know by name and face. The target must be on the same plane of existence. The target is unaware of the ritual and feels no sensation when the spell is cast.
At the end of the casting, the target makes a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. The caster does not learn whether the save succeeds or fails.
On a Failed Save
For the next 7 days, the target’s life force is siphoned gradually.
At dawn each day for 7 consecutive days:
-
The target’s maximum hit points are reduced by 1d6.
-
The caster’s maximum hit points increase by the same amount.
-
This reduction cannot be restored except by Greater Restoration or more powerful magic.
The caster’s increased maximum hit points last for the full duration of the spell.
While the spell persists, the caster has advantage on death saving throws.
If the target dies before the 7 days conclude:
-
Any remaining untransferred life force is immediately absorbed.
-
The total maximum hit point increase gained from this spell becomes permanent.
-
The target cannot be resurrected except by a spell of 8th level or higher.
On a Successful Save
For 7 consecutive days at dawn:
-
The target’s maximum hit points are reduced by 1d4 + 1.
-
The caster gains the same increase to their maximum hit points.
-
All other effects remain the same.
Aberrant Fracture
When the ritual is completed, the caster must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw.
On a failure, the caster’s mind begins to fracture as memories from the target bleed into their own.
For the duration of the spell (7 days):
-
The caster has disadvantage on Perception, Insight, and Arcana checks.
-
The caster has disadvantage on Wisdom and Intelligence saving throws.
-
The DM may describe intrusive memories belonging to the target.
The DM may occasionally describe memories that are not the caster’s. Childhood smells. Faces they have never met. Emotional reactions that do not belong to them.
The caster cannot reliably distinguish which memories are theirs.
If the Target Dies While Linked
If the target dies while the siphon is active:
-
The caster takes 4d10 psychic damage, ignoring resistance.
-
The Aberrant Fracture becomes permanent.
-
The listed disadvantages remain indefinitely.
-
The caster permanently adopts one defining emotional scar, fear, or personality trait of the deceased.
