You intercept hostile magic and convert its unraveling energy into lesser spellcraft.

When a creature you can see within range casts a spell, you attempt to disrupt and absorb it.

If the spell is 3rd level or lower, the spell fails and you absorb its energy.

If the spell is 4th level or higher, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a success, the spell fails and its energy is absorbed. On a failure, the spell resolves normally.

When you successfully absorb a spell, you immediately convert the captured magical energy into another spell you cast as part of the same reaction. This spell must normally have a casting time of 1 action.

You do not expend a spell slot to cast this spell. Instead, you transform the absorbed magical energy into the spell’s power.

The spell requires only a somatic component, as the captured energy replaces the spell slot and all other components normally required.

The level of spell you may cast depends on the level of the spell absorbed:

1st–3rd level spell absorbed → you may cast a cantrip you know
4th–6th level spell absorbed → you may cast a 1st-level spell you know
7th–8th level spell absorbed → you may cast a 2nd-level spell you know
9th level spell absorbed → you may cast a 3rd-level spell you know

The spell is cast immediately as part of the same reaction. The absorbed magical energy dissipates after empowering the spell.

Energetic Consequence
Channeling hostile magic through your mind exacts a toll. When you successfully absorb a spell using Arcane Rebound, you take psychic damage equal to 1d6 per level of the absorbed spell as the violent magical energies pass through your consciousness.

At Higher Levels
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the interrupted spell automatically fails if its level is less than or equal to the level of the spell slot you used.

If the spell you interrupt is of a higher level than the slot used to cast Arcane Rebound, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a success, the spell fails and its energy is absorbed. On a failure, the spell resolves normally.

The level of spell you release is determined by the level of the spell absorbed, not the level of the slot used to cast Arcane Rebound.
