Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (20-foot cone)
Components: V, S, M (you must cut your palm and spill a drop of your own blood; this component cannot be replaced by a focus)
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Constitution
Effect
You unleash a surge of corrupted blood magic in a 20-foot cone. Each creature in the area must make a Constitution saving throw.
-
On a failed save: the creature takes 5d8 necrotic damage.
-
On a successful save: the creature takes half as much damage.
Creatures that are below half their hit points make this saving throw with disadvantage.
Blood Surge
If at least one creature fails its saving throw, you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.
Blood Price
Casting this spell drains your life force. Immediately after casting it, you take 1d6 + 3 necrotic damage.
This damage cannot be reduced, resisted, or prevented, and temporary hit points cannot absorb it.
Corruption
After casting the spell, make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw.
On a failed save:
-
Your veins darken and your appearance becomes unsettling.
-
You have disadvantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks for 1 hour.
-
The next death saving throw you make before your next long rest is made with disadvantage.
Forbidden Magic
This spell cannot normally be learned or copied into a spellbook. It can only be discovered within the Tome of Strahd, a relic tied to the dark magic of Strahd von Zarovich.
Creatures familiar with the tome may recognize the spell as ancient vampiric blood sorcery.
