Blackwood Lockdown

During casting, you inscribe a shadowy sigil on a surface within range. The sigil is invisible in dim light or darkness. In bright light, it appears as faint distortions. A creature that enters the area can detect the sigil with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC.

You can only have one active sigil at a time.

While within 60 feet of the sigil, you can use your action to activate it. When triggered, shadow energy erupts along the boundary, forming a 20-foot-high cylindrical barrier. The spell then requires concentration.

The barrier creates a contained hunting ground with the following effects:

• The boundary provides total cover to creatures inside and outside relative to each other.

• Creatures can’t willingly leave the area unless they succeed on a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC when attempting to cross the barrier. On a success, the creature passes through and is immune to this effect for the rest of the spell’s duration.

• Teleportation or planar travel into or out of the area requires a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, the effect is wasted.

• A creature that starts its turn adjacent to the barrier can use its action to make a Strength (Athletics) check against your spell save DC, forcing its way through on a success.

While you are inside the area you have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Wisdom (Survival) checks made to track or locate creatures within the barrier, you can see normally in magical and nonmagical darkness within the area.

Once per turn when you hit a creature inside the area, you deal an extra 1d8 necrotic damage.

The barrier ends early if you dismiss it (no action required), or you lose concentration.
