Damage/Effect

You tear open a jagged fissure in space-time, revealing a glimpse of the endless cosmos beyond reality before it violently collapses.

Choose a point on the ground you can see within range. A 20-foot-long, 5-foot-wide fissure erupts in a straight line from that point in a direction you choose.

Each creature in the fissure’s area must make a Dexterity saving throw.

  • On a failed save, a creature takes 4d10 psychic damage and is knocked prone as its perception of space violently twists.

  • On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and isn’t knocked prone.

Cosmic Dread (Control Effect)

Until the start of your next turn, the fissure radiates mind-breaking astral light.

Each creature that starts its turn in the fissure or was damaged by the spell must make a Wisdom saving throw (your choice of one effect when you cast the spell):

Option A: Astral Terror (Frightened)

  • On a failure, the creature is frightened of the fissure until the start of your next turn.

  • While frightened this way, the creature’s speed is reduced to 0 if it is inside the fissure, overwhelmed by vertigo and existential dread.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a 5th-level or higher spell slot, the psychic damage increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 4th.
