As you begin to understand time at all points your perception deepens beyond fleeting glimpses, you can peer into written history using your knowledge of all things past and present and pausing at the most important places. You extend your consciousness beyond the present, perceiving time as a layered tapestry of recorded thought and memory. By focusing on a single word or a string of words, you anchor your awareness to threads of written history across all ages—past and present, preserved or destroyed.
When you cast this spell, choose one word that represents the subject of your search. The spell reveals visions, impressions, or excerpts from written records that are meaningfully related to that word. These records may originate from any point in time, even if they no longer exist.
You may refine your search by extending your casting. For each additional word you incorporate into your query, you must spend 1 additional hour casting the spell. Each added word increases the specificity of the information you uncover, though the spell never guarantees exact or complete answers—only relevant knowledge as determined by the DM.
The information appears in a form you can comprehend, though it may be fragmented, symbolic, or incomplete depending on the nature of the original source.
This spell can access only recorded information. Oral accounts and unrecorded events cannot be perceived. However, any form of written or inscribed record qualifies, including books, carvings, murals, cave paintings, magical inscriptions, and similar media. The material or language of the writing does not limit the spell’s effectiveness.
This spell takes 1 hour to cast per word up to 8 words per full cast. If this spell is cast more than once per day, the user will gain a level of exhaustion at the end of each additional time it is casted.
