While holding one mundane book, scroll, or tome, your brows involuntarily raise and furrow furiously, asynchronous of each other, as you skim the text during the casting of the spell. If you are proficient in the written language, you learn the literal meaning of the content as written, as if you had spent the appropriate amount of time to read through the text. If there are any cyphers or hidden messages, you know they are present but they are not deciphered.
If you are not proficient in the written language, make an Intelligence saving throw against your spell save DC at Disadvantage in order to gain the same benefits. On a failed save, you do not understand the contents of the reading material and cannot make another attempt to do so on the same item for 24 hours.
At Higher Levels: If you cast this spell at 3rd level or higher, you no longer have Disadvantage on the Intelligence saving throw if you are not proficient in the written language. If you cast this spell at 5th level or higher, any cyphers or hidden messages are made known to you and are immediately deciphered.
