You conjure a whip of sparkling arcane force and lash out at a creature within range.
Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 Force damage.
The target must also make a contested strength contest against with you (you and the target both roll a d20 and add your strength modifiers). If it fails, you can pull the creature in towards you. The significance of its failure compared to your success determines how far it is pulled. If it fails its roll by 5 or more, it is pulled 15 feet in a straight line toward you. If it fails by 10 or more, it is pulled directly in front of you. If it succeeds, it is not moved, and instead you take 1d8Psychic damage due to a bruised ego.
The damage taken by you and the target scales with character level.
At 5th level, the target takes 2d8 damage on a successful hit, and you take 1d4 damage on a failed contested roll.
At 11th level, the target takes 3d8 damage on a successful hit, and you take 1 damage on a failed contested roll
At 17th level, the target takes 4d8 damage on a successful hit, and you take no no damage.
