You create a living wall of viscous, swirling sand. The wall appears within range on a solid surface and lasts for the duration. You choose to make the wall up to 60 feet long, 10 feet high, and 5 feet thick or a circle that has a 20-foot diameter and is up to 20 feet high and 5 feet thick. This wall blocks line of sight.
When the wall appears, grasping hands of sand extend from the wall on all sides. Each time a creature finds itself within 5 feet of the wall, they must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 4d6 bludgeoning damage from the grasping hands, and is restrained. On a successful saving throw, a creature takes half as much damage and is not restrained. A restrained creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
A creature can move through the wall, albeit slowly and with great effort. For every 1 foot a creature moves through the wall, it must use 4 feet of movement. Furthermore, the first time a creature enters the wall on a turn or ends its turn there, the creature must make a Strength saving throw, taking 4d6 bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Creatures within the wall of living sand are blinded and deafened and unable to speak or breathe, and will begin to suffocate if they remain in the wall for too long. Spells with verbal components cannot be cast from within the wall, and any creature within the wall concentrating on a spell or spell effect must succeed on a DC 15 Concentration check or the spell ends.
