By touching a willing creature, you create a ward bound to the creature's life force, redirecting and mitigating potential harm. Whenever you take damage, you can use your reaction to prevent that damage. Each time you use this reaction, the bound creature takes half of the damage prevented.
Alternatively, you can bind the spell to the blood or flesh used as a material component. Doing so allows you to target the creature the blood or flesh came from, regardless of distance, and the creature does not have to be willing. The spell fails if the target is dead, on another plane of existence, or if the creature has been targeted by the spell in the past 24 hours. Using the material component in this manner consumes it when the spell ends.
The spell ends if the bound creature drops to 0 hit points or if you and the target are on separate planes. It also ends if you benefit from a second casting of this spell. You can also dismiss the spell as an action.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th or higher, you can have one additional creature you can touch gain the beneficial affects of the spell for each slot level above 5th.
