At some point in time, an eccentric mage got the bright idea of cramming even more gases into a target in order to keep them airborne and helpless. It took a great deal of patience to maintain the potency of the Bloat spell, but eventually the spell began to see sporadic use among higher level casters looking for a way to more effectively immobilize high priority targets. Today, this expanded (no pun intended) form of Bloat has found a special niche among certain circles of magic users.

You cause the gases within a creature you can see within range to expand rapidly. The target makes a Constitution saving throw, taking 3d10 Necrotic damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. If the damage that the creature takes equals or exceeds its Constitution ability score, the creature floats vertically 5 feet and remains suspended until the start of your next turn. The target can move only by pushing or pulling against a fixed object or surface within reach (such as a wall or a ceiling), which allows it to move as if it were climbing. When the spell ends, the target floats gently to the ground.

At higher levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 2nd. In addition, the damage increases by 3 for each slot level above 2nd.
