Candle of the Departed

You light a candle in honor of a departed soul. For the duration, the candle cannot be extinguished by nonmagical means.

If an undead creature comes within 120 feet of the candle, its flame burns blue. If a creature dies within 120 feet of the candle, the flame briefly flares black.

Once before the spell ends, you may ask a single yes-or-no question concerning a death that occurred within the last 24 hours at your current location. The DM must answer truthfully.
