Borrowed Hunger

2nd-level Necromancy

The Veil did not return your soul unchanged. When another creature nears the boundary between life and death, something within you instinctively reaches for the lingering Echo that surrounds it.

Choose one creature you can see within 60 feet that is either below half its hit point maximum or is a Veil-Touched creature, Aberration, Undead, or Borrowed Soul.

The target must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC.

On a failed save, the target takes 4d8 Psychic damage, and you regain hit points equal to the damage dealt. You also gain temporary hit points equal to your Bard level until the start of your next turn.

On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage, and you regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt. You do not gain temporary hit points.

If the target is a Veil-Touched creature, Aberration, Undead, or Borrowed Soul, the damage increases to 6d8 Psychic damage on a failed save (or half as much on a successful save).

Immediately after resolving this spell, the Dungeon Master may reveal a fleeting symbolic vision from somewhere beyond the Veil. These visions are fragmented and often impossible to understand in the moment.
