An ancient rite of the Tankor Empire, Blood of Ulmdor was created to verify members of the former Imperial House and settle questions of succession, disputed births, and concealed heirs. Knowledge of the spell largely vanished after the fall of the Empire and the dissolution of its state religion and Imperial Order of Paladins. Surviving copies are jealously guarded by imperial loyalists, particularly those connected to Hafort.

To cast the spell, you must stand within 5 feet of one creature, extend an empty hand toward it with your palm facing the creature, and clearly recite the ancient Imperial motto: “By Crown and Flame, Tankor Endures.”

Imperial Blood

For purposes of this spell, a natural-born member of House Ulmdor is any creature who possesses the bloodline of the Imperial House through biological descent, regardless of:

  • legitimacy of birth;
  • whether the creature knows its ancestry;
  • whether its parents concealed or renounced their ancestry;
  • how many generations separate it from the Imperial throne; or
  • magical or mundane disguises currently altering its appearance.

Marriage, adoption, honorary titles, magical impersonation, or being formally declared an Ulmdor do not cause the spell to respond.

The spell reveals nothing else. It cannot determine the target's parents, ancestry, generation, legitimacy, place in the succession, or whether the target has a lawful claim to the Imperial throne. It answers only one question: Does the blood of Ulmdor run naturally in this creature?

Divination Protection

A target protected from divination magic, such as by nondetection, produces no golden light, even if the target is an Ulmdor. The caster receives no indication that the spell was blocked.
