You open your senses to the Weave, allowing you to perceive and interpret magical energies within 30 feet of yourself.
When you cast this spell as an action, you immediately become aware of all spells and magical effects within 30 feet of you that are not completely concealed from divination magic. You may examine any number of these effects, learning the information described below.
For each spell or magical effect you examine, you learn the following information, provided that the information can reasonably be determined from the magic itself:
- Name: The name of the spell or magical effect, if it has one.
- Range: The range of the spell or magical effect, if it has one.
- School. The school of magic to which the spell belongs.
- Function. A concise explanation of what the spell or magical effect does.
- Damage. The type or types of damage it inflicts, if any.
- Nullification. If the magic is contained within or activated by a symbol, glyph, ward, rune, or other magical inscription, or is an active magical effect, you learn how it can be nullified, disabled, dispelled, or otherwise rendered inactive.
Arcane Exegesis does not automatically nullify, dispel, or interfere with any magic it reveals. It merely provides you with the knowledge necessary to do so.
The spell cannot reveal information that is genuinely unknowable, and magic specifically designed to conceal itself from divination may prevent or obscure its revelations. The DM determines what information is available when examining unusual, ancient, or exceptionally powerful magic.
Arcane Exegesis does not reveal the identity of the caster, the spell's history, its material components, or the means by which it was created.
The spell utilizes a silver tuning fork, charged with magical energy from three different schools of magic. The fork is not destroyed when the spell is cast, but its stored magical energy is consumed. The tuning fork must be recharged with three different schools of magic before it can be used to cast Arcane Exegesis again.
