A spectral chain made of purple light lashes out from an anchor point you choose within range at a creature within 30 feet of the anchor. That creature makes a charisma saving throw. On a failed save, it is bound by the chain and cannot move more than 30 feet from the anchor point. As a Magic action while this spell is ongoing, you can choose another point that is within 30 feet of the creature and within range and cause another chain to lash out at the same creature, forcing it to repeat the save.
If the creature is bound by 4 or more chains, it has the Restrained and Incapacitated conditions.
The creature affected by this spell can use an action to make a Strength (Athletics) or Intelligence (Arcana) check against your spell save DC, dispelling 1 chain of its choice if it succeeds.
A Dispel Magic spell cast on the creature dispels only 1 of the chains, and this spell continues to function.
If the affected creature tries to use teleportation or interplanar travel to teleport more than 30 feet from an anchor point, it must first make a Charisma saving throw for each anchor point. On a successful save, the corresponding anchor point is dispelled. If the creature succeeds on all of its saving throws, it can use that magic. On a failed save, the corresponding chain remains and the creature doesn’t teleport and wastes the spell or effect.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. If you cast this spell using a level 6 spell slot, you can maintain Concentration on it for up to 10 minutes. If you use a level 7+ spell slot, the spell doesn’t require Concentration, and the duration becomes 1 hour. If you use a level 8 spell slot, the duration becomes 24 hours and you can create a chain as a bonus action instead of a magic action. If you use a level 9 spell slot, the spell lasts until dispelled.
