“It fills you with soup and you die.” ~Cole (wizard student witnessing Fill Ray for the first time)
Target one creature you can see within range. Point at them with a soup ladle and yell “Soup!” to activate Fill Ray. The creature immediately makes a DC12 Constitution Saving Throw.
On a successful save nothing happens.
On a failed save, roll on the Soup Table (see below). The target’s inner cavities immediately begin to fill with the soup. Every turn the creature makes increasingly difficult Constitution Saving Throws (DC 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 30). If the creature fails three saving throws it is filled with soup and dies.
Any creature which survives all 10 turns survives the Fill Ray and its movement drops to 0 and it is prone until it can dispose of the soup. Every turn until the soup is disposed (methods of effective soup removal are up to DM discretion) the target takes 5d10 force damage which cannot be negated in any way. If the target reaches 0 hit points during this time it drowns in the soup and dies.
If the target takes 30 piercing damage in one hit during these 10 turns, it is no longer actively filling with soup and Fill Ray dissipates.
Counterspell is only effective following standard Counterspell rules, and if the target says “No soup for you!” with a funny voice. The target does not know this secret code unless they are informed on Fill Ray. If the creature is unable to verbalize this, the Counterspell instantly fails. No other measure can stop Fill Ray once it is active other than a loss of concentration. The spellcaster cannot choose to end Fill Ray on purpose.
This spell ignores any current Spell Save DC.

Posted Sep 23, 2026Hey! Just want to say this seems like a really well balanced spell! I get quite tired of a lot of silly gimmick spells and the overly powerful cantrips! Great to see a clever designer here!
