You lash a strand of venom-slick Abyssal silk at a creature you can see within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 Poison damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it must also succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or have the Grappled condition (escape DC equals your spell save DC), and you can pull it up to 10 feet in a straight line toward you.
You are the target's grappler. The strand stays tethered to you, but it doesn't occupy your hands. While the target is Grappled by this spell, the following rules apply.
Duration. The grapple lasts until the end of your next turn. It ends early if you have the Incapacitated condition, if the distance between you and the target ever exceeds 30 feet, if the strand is destroyed, or if you cast this spell again.
Escape. The target can take an action to make a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check against the escape DC, ending the condition on a success.
Movement. When you move, you can drag the target with you, but every foot of movement costs you 1 extra foot unless the target is Tiny or two or more sizes smaller than you.
The Strand. The strand is a Tiny object with AC 10, 5 Hit Points, Vulnerability to Fire damage, and Immunity to Poison and Psychic damage. Any creature within reach of the strand can attack it.
Cantrip Upgrade. The damage increases by 1d8 when you reach levels 5 (2d8), 11 (3d8), and 17 (4d8).
