You perform a forbidden ritual invoking Acamar, the Corpse Star, using a creature marked for Sacrifice as the foundation of its manifestation. At the ritual's completion, every creature bearing the mark of Sacrifice within range must make a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, it receives the Brand of Acamar, an indelible curse binding its existence to this casting. The Brand cannot be removed by any spell or effect short of divine intervention, and persists beyond the spell's duration.
The Corpse Star manifests above you, eclipsing the sun and swallowing the surrounding landscape within a mile-wide demiplane. Every creature within the sphere is transported into this realm, where the heavens are replaced by a blackened star and the land is surrounded by an impassable void. Creatures cannot leave through ordinary movement or planar travel. The demiplane persists until the ritual concludes or its duration expires.
The First Phase. The Corpse Star demands a tribute of living souls. During this phase, creatures reduced to 0 hit points within the demiplane can be offered to the star through a ritual performed within 5 feet of them as an action. A sacrificed creature dies, its body and soul consumed by Acamar, and contributes Sacrificial Value according to its challenge rating or character level.
| Sacrifice | Sacrificial Value |
|---|---|
| CR 0–4 or levels 1–4 | 1 |
| CR 5–10 or levels 5–8 | 3 |
| CR 11–16 or levels 9–12 | 6 |
| CR 17–20 or levels 13–16 | 10 |
| CR 21 or higher or levels 17–20 | 15 |
A creature bearing the Brand of Acamar contributes twice its normal Sacrificial Value. A creature must have been alive when the spell was cast to qualify, and a creature can contribute only once. To satisfy the ritual, you must accumulate at least 15 Sacrificial Value, including the sacrifice of at least three Branded creatures. If the requirements are not fulfilled before the spell ends, the ritual fails and the demiplane collapses.
The Second Phase. Once the ritual is satisfied, you can use an action to begin the immediately begin the Second Phase. The Corpse Star judges the accumulated sacrifices, granting you a single wish whose magnitude is determined by their total Sacrificial Value.
| Sacrificial Value | Power of the Wish |
|---|---|
| 15 | Alter the appearance, age, or the race of a creature. Alternatively an effect of equivalent power |
| 35 | Alter memories, a minor detail of a historical event, or the perception of creatures to a particular incident. Alternatively an effect of equivalent power |
| 75 | Permanently alter a creature, object, or location. Alternatively an effect of equivalent power |
| 150 | Request a miracle beyond the ordinary limits of Wish, subject to the DM's determination of Acamar's power |
The wish takes effect immediately upon the Second Phase's completion.
The Final Phase. After the wish is granted, the Corpse Star withdraws and the demiplane collapses. Surviving creatures return to their original locations, while consumed creatures remain lost to Acamar. The Brand of Acamar persists on any surviving branded creatures, permanently identifying them as participants in the Calamity.
If the spell ends without completing the Second Phase, no wish is granted. All accumulated Sacrificial Value is lost, and the Corpse Star disappears.
