Uttering vile words, you point at one Medium dead creature within range that is not a construct or an elemental, causing its flesh to rapidly bubble and rot. The chosen dead creature violently explodes into a putrid cloud of viscera and necrotic energy. Each creature within 15 feet of the corpse must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 4d12 necrotic damage and is blinded for 1 minute. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and is not blinded. A creature blinded by this spell can spend an action to remove the debris from its eyes, ending the blinded condition on itself.
If the chosen dead creature consisted entirely of bones, such as a skeleton or the remains of an undead one, the spell does not cause necrotic damage, nor inflict the blinded condition. Instead, the explosion scatters bone shrapnel in all directions. Creatures in the radius of this explosion must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 10d4 piercing damage on a fail, or half as much on a success. This damage is nonmagical.
When a dead creature is detonated by this spell, no part of it remains intact. The corpse is rendered unrecognizable, and nonmagical possessions worn by it are destroyed.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, its necrotic damage increases by 1d12 or piercing damage by 3d4 for each slot level above 5th, and you can choose one Large dead creature to double the explosion radius (to 30 feet). When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, you can choose one Huge dead creature to triple the explosion radius (to 45 feet).
