You choose a 5-foot-square unoccupied space on the ground that you can see within range. Vines sprout and grow rapidly there and reach for one creature you can see within 5 feet of them. The target must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage and is grappled for the spell’s duration. To break out, the target can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success, the target escapes and is no longer grappled by the vines.

As an action, you can cause the vines to pull the grappled target deeper into the ground. The creature must make a Strength saving throw. It takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage on a failed save and instead becomes restrained for the spell’s duration, or half as much damage on a successful save and remains grappled. To break out, the target can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success, the target escapes and is no longer restrained by the vines. Any effect that moves the target further away than 5 feet from the vines ends the restrained condition.

As an action, you can cause the vines to pull the restrained target even deeper into the ground. The creature must make a Strength saving throw. It takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage on a failed save and becomes prone, and remains restrained for the spell's duration, or half as much damage on a successful save and remains restrained. To break out, the target can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success, the target escapes and is no longer restrained by the vines. Any effect that moves the target further away than 5 feet from the vines ends the restrained condition.

Lastly, as an action, you can cause the vines to pull the prone and restrained target completely underground. The creature must make a Strength saving throw. It takes 4d6 bludgeoning damage on a failed save and instead becomes incapacitated for the duration of the spell as it is fully buried, or half as much damage on a successful one and remains and remains prone and restrained. A creature buried this way that requires breath may hold it's breath before suffocating. It remains buried this way until somehow dug up or freed.

As an action, you can cause the vines to move to a different unoccupied space within range and reach for a different creature. The vines release any previously grappled and/or restrained target if you do so.
