A failed byproduct of attempting to create a short range teleport similar to spells like misty step. This spell creates a momentary portal on the ground beneath a medium or smaller creature or object within range. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw, an object automatically fails this save. If they fail, they fall into the portal and teleport to an unoccupied space 10 feet into the air directly over the portal falling to the ground taking 1d8 bludgeoning damage and they are knocked prone. On a successful save they avoid the portal entirely, taking no damage. If a creature has a fly speed the damage is halved and they are forced to the ground, but do not fall prone. The target must be able to be teleported to an unoccupied space 10 feet into the air or the spell fails.
At higher levels you can keep the momentary portal open longer, allowing the creature to pass through multiple times gaining momentum and causing this spell’s damage to increase by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8). In addition, at 5th level you can target creatures and objects of huge size or smaller. At 11th level, you can target creatures and objects of gargantuan size or smaller, and 17th level, you can target up to two large or smaller creatures and/or objects or one huge or gargantuan sized creature or object.
