You lash out with necrotic damage, making a ranged spell attack against a creature of your choice within range.
On a hit you fill their organs with necromantic energy, causing them to wither and decay. The target takes 4d6 necrotic damage and is inflicted with a withering disease, slowing all of its movement by half as it is wracked with pain.
At the end of each of its turns, the affected creature makes a Constitution saving throw, ending the effect on a success. On a failure, the creature takes an additional 4d6 necrotic damage and, if the save is failed by 5 or more then it also loses the use of one of its largest remaining hit dice. Any hit dice lost to the spell count as the same pool as expended hit dice and can only be regained through a long rest.
The spell has no effect on constructs, undead or creatures immune to disease. Additionally, any effect that removes a disease or otherwise ameliorates a disease's effects apply to it.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, each instance of the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 4th.
