You animate a corpse with just enough energy to sustain it for a few seconds. Choose a corpse within range.
The corpse fills a foul imitation of life and immediately makes a melee attack against the target of your choice within 5 feet of it. This attack uses your spell attack bonus and deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage. This damage is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistances. Until the spell ends, you can use your reaction to cause the corpse to make an opportunity attack against any creature leaving its 5-foot reach.
At the start of your next turn, the spell ends and the corpse returns to being an inanimate object.
When you reach higher levels, the spark of unlife allows you to empower a corpse to make multiple attacks - up to two at 5th level, up to three at 11th level, and up to four at 17th level. You may choose to animate multiple corpses, imbuing each with one or more of these attacks. The corpses all become inanimate objects at the start of your next turn.
