You imbue a gemstone with the ability to gather and compress energy over time. When broken the gemstone releases all of the energy it has gathered over time, however long that may be. As a result of the gemstone continually gathering energy a sphere around it equal to its blast radius will become extremely cold and all plants that attempt to grow there will wither and die.
To determine the strength of the blast look below.
The gemstone starts off dealing 1d4 force damage in a 5 foot radius sphere with a Dexterity Save DC of 1. On a failed save they take full damage, on a successful save they take no damage. As it grows in power over time the damage radius and save will increase.
- Every day at dawn the damage increases by 1d4.
- Every full moon at midnight the radius increases by 5 feet.
- Every winter solstice the save DC increases by 1.
There is no record of one of these gemstones ever reaching a limit, as they are always hunted down and disposed of due to the threat they pose. As such once it is known that you are in possession of one of these you will have to deal with monthly attacks by increasingly powerful individuals who either wish to obtain the gemstone for themselves or to dispose of it.
To dispose of the gemstone it must either be subjected to a wish spell, or a divine intervention, only then will the energy be safely released back into the world.
* - (a gemstone worth at least 5,000 gold pieces which the spell consumes)
