Creation

This spell creates an undead servant. Choose a pile of bones or a corpse of a Large or smaller creature to reanimate; the creature can be no higher than challenge rating 5. Your spell imbues the target with a foul mimicry of life, raising it as an undead creature. The template for creating undead is as follows;

Universal Undead Traits:

  • Lose the ability to speak, unless Intelligence stays at 10 or above. Can understand the languages of you, its creator.
  • They lose proficiency in skills related to any ability score that drops below 10.
  • They retain some of their special features, at the DM's discretion (such as a beholder's antimagic cone). However, The DC decreases by 2 (in addition to the decrease it may suffer from decreased ability scores), and if it has range it is halved. If the feature deals damage, the damage dice are decreased by 1/3, if it has dice, or if it deals flat damage it is decreased by 1/3 as well.
  • They retain their typical physical attacks and related features, such as a minotaur's charge feature in tandem with its gore attack.
  • They retain their special attacks, (i.e. a red dragon's fire breath)
  • They lose all legendary features, including lair actions.
  • If they have class levels, specifically caster levels, they are halved. Their spell save DC decreases by 2 in addition to the decrease they suffer from their lost ability scores.
  • If they have innate spellcasting, they retain it, though they have 1 fewer cast, to a minimum of 1 for each spell. Otherwise, they suffer the same negative 2 penalty as listed above.
  • They gain Darkvision 60 feet.

Skeletal Undead:

  • Hit Die decrease by 1/3.
  • Constitution decreases by 1 to a minimum of 8.
  • Intelligence decreases by 4 to a minimum of 6.
  • Wisdom decrease by 8 to a minimum of 8.

Zombie Undead:

  • Constitution increases by 6 to a max of 20.
  • Strength increases by 3 to a maximum of 20.
  • Dexterity decreases by 6 to a minimum of 6.
  • Intelligence decreases to 3.
  • Wisdom decreases by 6 to a minimum of 6.
  • Base movement speed decreases by 10 feet, to a minimum of 20.
  • Gain undead fortitude. Whenever the zombie drops to 0 hit points, it makes a DC 10 Constitution saving throw. On a success it drops to 1 hit point instead. If the damage that dropped it was radiant or from a critical hit, this feature does not function.

On each of your turns, you can use a bonus action to mentally command any creature you made with this spell if the creature is within 60 feet of you (if you control multiple creatures, you can command any or all of them at the same time, issuing the same command to each one). You decide what action the creature will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a general command, such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. If you issue no commands, the creature only defends itself against hostile creatures. Once given an order, the creature continues to follow it until its task is complete.

The creature is under your control for 24 hours, after which it stops obeying any command you've given it. To maintain control of the creature for another 24 hours, you must cast this spell on the creature again before the current 24-hour period ends. This use of the spell reasserts your control over up to four creatures you have animated with this spell, rather than animating a new one.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you animate or reassert control over two additional undead creatures for each slot level above 4th. Additionally, the challenge rating of the creature you can reanimate increases by 2 for each slot level over 4th. When you cast this spell using a 6th-level spell slot you can reanimate one Huge creature, and an additional Huge creature for each slot level above 6th. When you cast this spell using a 9th-level spell slot you can reanimate a Gargantuan creature. In order to reassert control over Huge or Gargantuan undead, you must cast the spell at the minimum level required to create that specific undead.

* - (a drop of blood, a piece of flesh, and a pinch of bone dust, and onyx powder worth 100 GP per original hit die of the animated creature.)
