This spell creates an living shadow. Your spell imbues your shadow with a foul mimicry of life, raising it as an undead creature. Your shadow becomes a living shadow (the GM has the creature's game statistics).
On each of your turns, you can use a bonus action to mentally command your shadow if it is within 60 feet of you. You decide what action your shadow will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a general command, such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. If you issue no commands, your shadow only defends itself against hostile creatures. Once given an order, your shadow continues to follow it until its task is complete.
Your shadow is under your control for 24 hours, after which it loses it's essence of life. To maintain control of your shadow for another 24 hours, you must cast this spell on it again before the current 24-hour period ends. If you fall unconscious as a result of the damage dealt when you cast this spell you lose your connection to the shadow and it loses its life essence.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you draw the essence of a lesser demon from the Abyss at the cost of additional blood (additional 2d10 necrotic damage) and imbue it into your shadow. As a result of this action your shadow becomes a lesser shadow demon (the GM has the creature's game statistics).
