Eldritch Blast
Summon the tentacles of an eldritch monster to attack your foe. This spell can be used on reaction to an enemy's melee attack against yourself, at which point they will have to make a dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the enemy takes 2d4 damage, their attack is negated, and they are knocked prone. On a successful save, this spell does nothing.

Posted Apr 21, 2020This spell is cool, but as it stands it is a little bit busted. The fact that it gives the opportunity to completely negate any attack (say a critical hit against an AC of 12) AND deal damage AND knock enemies prone seems overtuned, especially at level 1. I would suggest making it a little more like Hellish Rebuke, but with a Eldritch twist. Something like:
The spell can be activated as a reaction upon receiving damage from a melee attack. The creature attacking you must make a Dexterity saving throw. It takes 2d6 force damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. Creatures that fail the Dexterity saving throw are also grappled until the end of your next turn.
Also, as an sidenote, Eldritch blast is not a damage/effect type, and you could add a scaling with higher level casts (especially useful for warlocks who always cast their spells at max level).
