Your melee attacks deal an additional 1d4 lightning damage on a hit, and if a creature touches you or hits you with a melee attack whilst the spell is active, that creature takes 1d4 lightning damage.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a slot of 3rd or 4th, the lightning damage increases to 2d4. When you use a spell slot of 5th or 6th level, the lightning damage increases to 3d4. When you use a spell slot of 7th level or above, the lightning damage increases to 4d4.
