Lightning springs from your hand to deliver a shock to a creature in range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 3d4 damage.
If you roll the same number on any d4s, the chaotic energy leaps from the target to a different creature of your choice within 30 feet of it. Make a new attack roll against the new target, and make a new damage roll, which could cause the chaotic energy to leap again.
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, each target takes 1d6 extra damage for each slot level above 1st.
[I've calculated the spell and compared it to others. While the dmg and leaping probability seems high at first place, it actually isn't as high as the one of chaos bolt.
Assuming your Mod is +7 and Enemy AC is 13, Chaos Bolt has a average total Dmg of 13,6, this Spell of 13,1 in 1000 throws. While the spell jumps more often (60%), it does less dmg. Thus your median damage is more constant in general.
Casting this dmg on Lv 2 your average total damage is about 21, just as Scorching Ray.
Please discuss with your DM if you may use this spell with Elemental Adept. it will lead to a ~80% jumping probability with average total Dmg of 18,5 ]
