The first time you make a successful melee attack within the duration, the target takes an extra 3d6 force damage, and must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is knocked prone, you can use your reaction to immediately make a basic melee weapon attack against it.
Any suggestions for improvements are more than welcome.
First suggestion is kinda a dumb one but might as well throw it at ya seeing as your more or less asking for it and I was considering doing the same on my stuff too. Wording wise, nearly every "smite" spell starts with "The first time you hit with a melee weapon attack during this spell's duration," with the exception of Thunderous Smite. Not a huge deal, wording is just a simple critique and worth considering. I try to stay close to the official stuff when I can.
Other than that I mostly just wanted to get your thoughts on why you chose certain things. Blinding Smite is our only 3rd level to compare to. 3d6 force damage vs 3d8 radiant damage makes some decent sense. Force damage is thematic and theoretically more effective than radiant damage, which makes up for the dice difference. Wondering if you had any specific thoughts there. Blinding for up to 1 minute is quite a bit more powerful than a knockdown but the immediate follow up reaction attack is an interesting way to equalize, and imo really fits with the "battering" aspect heh.
I'm not sure I would actually do anything differently if I was gunna make the spell although it could be lower level if it was just a simple knockdown. Interested to hear back from you and I would love any input you might have on my stuff.
My rationale behind the leveling and effect of the spell was this: being able to hit with a melee attack that does an extra 3d6 damage and then immediately being able to follow up with another attack with advantage if they get prone is almost too powerful, considering divine smite.
