You reach out with malicious force towards your target, your magic gripping them by the throat. The target must make Dexterity saving throw or be considered Strangled. Unlike strangulation with hands, a creature’s size does not grant immunity to strangulation from this spell. In addition, the Strength (Athletics) check time break strangulation must be made against your Spell Save DC, rather than against your Strength (Athletics) check.
STRANGULATION
A creature can last a number of rounds equal to 2 + their Constitution modifier (minimum of 0) before their health drops to 0. During this time, the target is considered restrained. The only actions the target may take while being strangled are to attack the opponent that is strangling them (with disadvantage), or to make a Strength (Athletics) check against the opponent’s Strength (Athletics) check in an attempt to break free.
