Bardic Desire is among the mightiest spells a mortal creature can cast. By simply speaking aloud - and, of course, paying the God of Fate their due - you can alter the very foundations of reality in accord with your desires. In order to successfully cast this spell, the bard must perform the verbal component, making a DC 25 Performance check. On a failure, the spell fizzles, but all material components are still lost. You still feel the effects as though you successfully cast the spell for whatever purpose you Desired.

The basic use of this spell is to duplicate any other spell of any school the Bard has access to of 8th level or lower. You don't need to meet any other requirements in that spell, including costly components. The spell simply takes effect.

Prior to casting this spell, discuss with your GM any other ideas you would Desire. The GM has the right to interpret how they choose with what occurs in such an instance; the greater the Desire, the greater the likelihood that something goes wrong. This spell might simply fail, the effect you intend might only be partly achieved, or you might suffer some unforeseen consequence as a result of how you worded the Desire. For example, Desiring that a villain were dead might propel you forward in time to a period when that villain is no longer alive, removing you from the game. Similarly, Desiring a legendary magic item or artifact might instantly transport you to the presence of the item's current owner, causing you to enter combat against what is likely a more powerful foe.

The stress of casting this spell to produce any effect other than duplicating another spell weakens you. After enduring that stress, each time you cast a spell until you finish a long rest, you take 1d10 psychic damage per level of that spell. This damage can't be reduced or prevented in any way. In addition, you will need to role a d100 with a DC 45 save. On a failed save, Bardic Desire can not be cast unless another creature casts Power Word Heal on you.
