Roll a d4.
1. Fire Ray: A ray of flame. Make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 100ft. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 fire damage. It the beginning of each of their turns, they make a DC 13 constitution saving throw. On a fail, they take 1d6 fire damage. On a success, this effect ends.
2. Air Blast: A blast of air. All creatures within a 100ft line must make a DC 13 dexterity save or take 1d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier force damage and be knocked prone and knocked backwards 10ft.
3. Water Jet: A jet of cold water. Make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 100ft. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 cold damage and 1d8 force damage. They also make a DC 13 constitution saving throw. On a fail, their speed is reduced by 10ft. until your next turn.
4. Earth Attack: Spiky rocks rise and drop in a 100ft line. Every creature in the line must makes a DC 13 dexterity saving throw or take 1d12 slashing damage + your spellcasting ability modifier.
At higher levels: For every 2 levels above third that you cast this with, add 1 more damage die of the same type.
I feel some ATLA vibes and I like it. I also like that it is random.
After rooting around in the books a bit, this is similar to chaos bolt.
Perhaps that is where you drew inspiration from.
and if i am not mistaken isnt elemental damage more in line with evocation and not conjuration? as conjuration is more about producing something such as fog/elementals and such while evocation deals with the elemetal effects (cold/fire/thunder/acid etc).
also might want to adjust the damage perhaps as some of the cantrips availible to these spellcasters already do around d8-d12 damage.
similar spell would be scorcing ray (2nd level) which can do up to 6d6 (if cast at the 2nd lvl) to one target if you want to focus on only one.
Or did you make the damage lower due to the fact that it doesnt use somatic and material components?
i love the idea of a Chaotic element when it comes to spells and as said before it does give of ATLA Vibes (loved that show).
A bit of a long comment but yeah hope this isnt viewed as me bashing the idea, love the concept
Some decent ideas here but... Let me help.
The D4 is really, really random. A wizard casting this spell has no idea of which effect will come out. That's a drawback.
The damage the spells deal is underpowered. A D12, 2D8 etc, its 2nd level spell territory. A fire ball does 6-48 save for 1/2 with a 20 radius. You can't beat fireball, but at least try to approach that. So, a D20 is much better or 2d12 or even 3D10 or 3D10.
Upcasting can be every level adding another die of damage: D8, D10 or even a D12.
Cheers. Good luck.
Looking at this I was considering Wizard only, not Cleric.
it should be evocation instead of conjuration
i hate iti love itAs a preface I'm sorry to be very criticism heavy but I feel this needs to be said.
This is very similar to Chaos Bolt. Also very under-powered, possibly change it to 4d8 or 3d10 damage plus maybe a line AOE instead of single target. Or as an alternative you could make it a 2nd or first level spell. I think first level would be apt because of the randomness factor which could account for the increase in damage.
