Bond Companion

You create a long-lasting bond with a willing beast that has a challenge rating of 1/2 or lower that you remain within 5 feet of while casting this spell, which can be done during a short rest. (Your DM might allow some other monster types to be bonded as companions.) If your companion has an Intelligence of 5 or less, its Intelligence becomes 6, and it gains the ability to understand one language of your choice that you speak.

You control the companion in combat and you have an instinctive bond with it that allows you to fight as a seamless unit, although the companion is unable to fly while mounted unless this spell was cast using a spell slot of 4th level or higher. While the companion is within 1 mile of you, you can communicate with it telepathically. While touching it, you can make any spell you cast that targets only you also target the companion.

When the companion drops to 0 hit points, it disappears, leaving behind no physical form. You can also dismiss the companion at any time as an action, causing it to disappear. In either case, casting this spell again summons the same companion, with all its hit points restored and any conditions removed.

You can’t have more than one creature bonded by this spell or a similar spell such as find steed at a time. You can release the companion from its bond at any time, in which case your companion departs. Your companion may also choose to break the bond itself if it’s unhappy with how it’s been treated.

Whenever the companion disappears or departs, it leaves behind any objects it was wearing or carrying.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level, the maximum challenge rating of the beast you can bond with increases to 1. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th or 5th level, the maximum challenge rating increases by 1 for each slot level above 3rd.
