Posted Apr 30, 2022ikr, like i understand why this spell is at the top of the least rated. Advice for creator: Cool name, but change the effects, and make it a 2nd level spell.

Posted May 31, 2023This is literally just the Shield spell but as a cantrip. Super overpowered.

Posted Aug 28, 2023I've received comments that this is just a shield spell that doesn't use spell slots. The idea behind this spell is to give the Abjurer an abjuration cantrip that is unique to them and actually useful.. When I made it, I was regretting how the Shield spell went from five minutes in duration to a single turn from 3rd edition to 5th. The difference between the Shield spell and Abjurer's Ward is that AW doesn't protect the Caster against magic missile spell, which I thought was a powerful enough debuff to turn it into a cantrip. Also I thought it would be fun rping an Abjurer who created the cantrip, giving the pc a chance to shine. Those are my thoughts, but, hey, you are all entitled to your opinions.

Posted Jul 16, 2026Abjure's Ward is a great name, Kellithai. But, considering that you made it out as a version of the Shield spell, would there be any shame in naming it to something that is related to the official spell? I'm thinking something like Lesser Shield. And, despite the downgrade of being vulnerable to an Magic Missile attack, an unlimited +5 AC is perhaps a lot. Especially because casters may have little use for their reactions, if compared to martials. Have you considered also downgrading the bonus to the AC? I think a +2 single round bonus would be very reasonable for an unlimited resource as a cantrip. And other casters could take great benefit selecting this cantrip, making an interesting choice to their 4 to 6 cantrip repertoire, specially in combat-driven campaigns.
By the way, I upvoted your cantrip, because I don't think it should be that badly evaluated by the community. Have a nice day, Kellithai.
