This spell lets you convince a beast that you are close to its kind. This provides advantage for speaking with this beast or handling it. If these and any other checks succeed and the player spends the required amount of time by the DM with the creature, then the beast is tied to the player as a pet, and the player has according companionship with it.
Animals natural dispositions play into this. For instance, it might take 5 minutes to gain total companionship with a dog or a tame horse, while it might take a full 4 hours to gain survivable companionship with a tiger.
This spell only works on animals natural to the plane of earth. This spell becomes more efficient and persuasive at higher levels.
