You extend a finger out towards a creature in range, causing the temperature within and around them to drop drastically. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 8d8+40 Cold damage on a failed save or half as much on a success. If this damage reduces the target creature to 0 hit points, they briefly become a frozen statue before shattering into countless shards of ice that never melt.
I like the concept but I think that it should do more damage or affect nerby creatures, but like I said, I like a lot the concept
It is a good idea, but this spell is literally the exact same as disintegrate (a level seven spell). The only differences between the two being: disintegrate does 10d8+40 force damage, while this spell does 8d8+40 cold damage. I do not see how this could be a ninth level spell, (especially compared to other level nine spells such as wish or meteor swarm) it would probably make more sense for it to be a level six spell.
I like the idea- however it is essentially a lower damage, worse damage type, less effective destroyer, and non-force-ending higher level Disintegrate. It could use some beefing up.
The idea behind why the damage is about the same as a spell like Disintegrate, but has a higher spell level, is that part of the spell at the end where the body shatters into shards of never melting ice. Essentially, this was put in place so that resurrecting the creature would be harder to do than with Disintegrate, since there would be nothing left of the actual body, only countless shards of ice that could not be used as a target for a spell or reconstructed ever again.
In addition, the fact that it forces a Constitution saving throw, and also does damage on successful throws unlike Disintegrate, means it’s safer to cast because Evasion can’t be used to avoid it and it can kill even on a success. Just giving my thought process, hope that explains it better!
