For up to three rounds the first time the target would take damage it will be prevented and healed by that amount instead, up to a maximum of 2d4+2.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the amount increases by 1d4+1 for each slot level above 2nd.
Rulings:
Can be dispelled.
Excess damage is taken after healing.
Examples:
1.) The target which the spell is cast upon has 15 out of 20 Hitpoints and would take 3 Damage. The Spellcaster rolled a 6 including modifiers: The spell will prevent 3 damage and instead heal for 3 points, which brings the target to 18 Hitpoints.
2.) The target which the spell is cast upon is at 44 out of 50 Hitpoints and would take 20 Damage. The Spellcaster rolled a 9 including modifiers: The spell will prevent 9 damage and instead heal for 9 points, which brings the target to full life. After that the excess damage of 11 points is taken, which would bring it down to 39 Hitpoints.
