You send the bone of a medium or larger sized creature imbued with necrotic energy hurling toward a creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit the target takes 2d4 piercing damage and 2d4 necrotic damage.
If you kill a creature with this spell you can cast it again as a bonus action without consuming a spell slot, using the bones in the corpse of your target as material for the spell. If you attack a creature from behind this way they must make a Wisdom (Perception) saving throw against your Spell Save DC. On a failed save a successful attack is treated as a critical strike. The new target must have its back facing the corpse you are using as material to gain this effect.
At Higher Levels. Casting this spell at 3rd level or higher creates an additional spear for every spell level above 2nd. You have to make separate additional ranged spell attack rolls for each spear, but the javelins all strike simultaneously, and you can direct them to hit one creature or several.

Posted Aug 19, 2020For clarification's sake the save against a guaranteed critical strike on a successful ranged spell attack specifically only applies if the first creature you kill is behind your new target.
So if you have a creature within 5 feet of you and they have an archer ally 20 ft away and you use the spell to kill the archer, you can cast the spell again as a bonus action and attack the creature within 5 feet of you, and since the archer was behind them you have a chance to get a free crit if your attack lands.
but if you were to reverse that order and kill the creature within 5 feet of you and then target the archer, no dice; it's a regular ranged spell attack and no save is needed to be made
