Posted Apr 15, 2022Yeah, I've had mixed feelings about this spell since the start. Ultimately, it's just a lower-quality version of misty step that allows for mages to get out of grapples/restraints, over small gaps, and through small openings (like prison bars). It's an action instead of a bonus action and has a short unpredictable distance; the only real benefit is that it's a cantrip, so it can be used as often as needed. There's a part of me that thinks it's too powerful, since it would remove a caster's need to use a 2nd level spell slot, but I haven't found it to be unreasonable in-game given the spells limitations. Also, most casters don't have all that many cantrips, and so utility cantrips tend to be part of their identity, which I feel this cantrip serves very well for people who want to play a nightcrawler-type character.
Edit: Thanks for your comment. Let me know if you try it out in a game!
