Casting this spell provides a floating pedestal topped by a holographic map of the area, this means all the surrounding environment out to 10 miles per caster level(it ss so large be cause it is meant to be used for navigation) however when in a cave complex or dungeon it only highlights the extent of the cave complex and any adjoining annexes or the surrounding wilderness not both at the same time. you can zoom in and out, you are represented by a glowing dot, the map only provides basic information,  it does not reveal hidden features of creatures and can not be used to detect traps or ambushes.
