In desperation, Valeria yanks the young Kenku towards her and presses her into her chest. She covers Yavi's ears and hopes it's enough.
She breathes in once, twice, then pauses as her lungs fill and jaw cracks open.
A horrible, soul-shattering scream erupts from deep within her, devastating anything and everything around them.
For this spell, the caster and everyone within a 120 foot circle must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 15). If successful, they take half 2d12 force damage. If failed, every being affected is reduced to 0 hit points. Regardless of the success or failure of the saving throw, every being within the range of attack is temporarily deafened (up to two hours).
Should the caster survive the spell, they are unable to speak or hear for the following two days, regardless of any magical healing attempted on their person.
Note:
This spell does not affect anyone who is completely deaf. In that same light, this spell is successfully survived with no injuries if the wearer, or any being within that range of distance is in possession or is currently utilizing a noise suppressing object or spell (much like deafness, it must be absolute).
With regards to the caster, if they possess something that is noise cancelling, they still must make a constitution saving throw (DC 13). If successful, they take half 1d6 force damage. If failed, they take 1d6 force damage and are unable to speak for one day as their throat recovers.

Posted Sep 12, 2020Hi! If you're seeing this, please let me know what you think. This is the very first Homebrew anything that I've created, and I want to know how I can both improve it and change it to better fit into a general campaign.
Some background:
- I've based some of it off of a Banshee's wail move, easily found if one looks up their section in the monster's manual (I believe).
- This is obviously a part of a homebrew campaign that I'm in the process of building from the ground up. I know a little bit about some of the classes and their respective subclasses, but would love to know which this spell would best fit (this is written for a Warlock that follows Garyx if it helps). The one's I've added are mostly steeped in magic, but if anyone has any other ideas, they would be much appreciated.
- The reason that it is so devastating to the caster if failed is that part of the magic is made to protect the their throat...like a marshmallow to a sore throat. If they fail on any of the saving throws, the throat is in direct contact with the magic, and bares the brunt of its effects, hence the inability to speak should the saving throw be unsuccessful.
