You create a 10-foot-radius, 20-foot-tall cylinder of magical energy centered on a point on the ground that you can see within range. With the aid of a detect magic spell, glowing holy writing in the form of runes can be seen wherever the cylinder intersects with the floor or other surface.
The circle affects creatures in the following ways:
- Creatures may enter the circle, but are compelled to leave if they attempt to desecrate the ground or disturb structures, objects, or the environment with the circle, unless they make a Wisdom saving throw, subtracting the spell casting level from the roll.
- Creatures succeeding on the Wisdom saving throw take 1d4 psychic damage for each round they remain within the circle, plus an additional 1d4 per spell slot level for each round they remain within the circle.
- Upon desecration, the ground becomes normal ground. Desecration occurs when blood is spilled within the consecrated area, or the effect is dispelled using Dispel Magic.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 1st level or higher, the saving throw required increases by 1 for each casting level, and for those succeeding on the saving throw, the psychic damage taken increases by 1d6 for each slot level.
