You can target and make up to 5 different types of creatures in an area up to 1 mile square from a space you target look, sound, smell, and even feel like some other sort of creatures. The creature's general shape, size, and actions remain mostly the same, however. Innocent creatures such as an adorable little cat or a loyal dog could be made to resemble a Kobold, Quasit, Dretch demon, or some other difficult or impassable foe or enemy. A Gorgon can be made to seem like a gentle cow, a Displacer Beast like a fluffy lynx, or a deadly Nightmare like a kind and loyal Hippogriff.
Similarly, you can alter the appearance of humanoids. The spell doesn't disguise, terrain or structures, and cannot disguise, hide, or change clothing or other non-living entities.
The illusion includes audible, visual, tactile, and olfactory elements, so it can turn what seems like a perfectly peaceful creature into an intimidating, and/or even horrifying monstrosity (or vice versa) or otherwise impede any other creatures. Any part of the illusory creature (such as a set of trophy antlers or a pelt of fur) that is removed from the spell's area disappears immediately.
Creatures with truesight can see through the illusion to the creature's true form; however, all other elements of the illusion remain, so while the creature is aware of the illusion's presence, the creature can still physically interact with the illusion.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, you can target an additional type of creature and the duration of the spell increases by an extra 12 hours for each slot level above 6th.
