Alaric’s ultimate sacrifice

Alaric believing that sacrifices are best made by others, and without their knowledge if possible experimented with linking wards.  Those experiments led to this spell. (This spell can only be learned or cast by an evil caster)

The caster must cut his left hand and then while still bleeding hold the diamond in that hand, then touch a target with his right hand who is not hostile to him at the time of casting.  The subject makes a charisma save vs the casters spell casting difficulty if the target succeeds, the target is utterly convinced that the gem (now a ruby) is his and unless given the gem will become hostile to the caster for life.  Any spell to undo this hostility will fail unless cast at 5th level or higher.

if the subject fails the save, then nothing happens until the the next time the caster taken damage suffers from a condition.  Any time the caster takes damage or is subject to a condition the target then instead suffers the damage or condition and becomes aware of the spell and the link.  The link remains as long as the caster and subject are on the same plane.  The link is subject to dispelling and detection from either end.  If the subject enters a magic circle or a ‘temple of the gods’-the 7th level spell or becomes subject to the sanctuary spell the link is severed.  If the subject dies from the link, the gem is empowered.

The caster can use the empowered gem to cast a 3rd level or lower spell they have prepared once or the empowered gem can be used as the heart of a warforged.
