You channel arcane energy into a bow or crossbow you’re holding, and choose one damage type: cold, fire, lightning, or thunder. Until the spell ends, the ammunition used for your attacks transmute into elemental arrows, changing the attack's damage type to the chosen elemental type. You also deal an extra 1d6 damage of the chosen type to any target you hit with the arrow. 

As a bonus action, you can change the damage type, choosing from the options above.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can maintain concentration on the spell for up to 1 hour. When using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you can maintain concentration on the spell for up to 8 hours. 

Design note: this is a reimagining of the Arcane Weapon spell that appeared in the 2019 Unearthed Arcana Artificer playtest article. In our campaign, arcane archers can cast this spell once per short rest, starting at 3rd level. To further improve the subclass, they can also use their Arcane Shot feature a number of times equal to their proficiency modifier (maximum 4) per short or long rest, instead of twice.
