You conjure a magical blade of ice in your free hand. This blade is similar in size and shape to a longsword, but transforms into a dagger when thrown. It lasts until the spell ends. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient, and has the finesse, light, and thrown properties (range 20/60). It deals 1d8 slashing (if used for a melee weapon attack) or 1d4 piercing damage (if thrown), plus an additional 2d4 cold damage.
If you drop the weapon or throw it, it melts and shatters at the end of the turn. Thereafter, while the spell persists, you can use a bonus action to cause the blade to reappear in your hand.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the additional cold damage increases by 1d4 for every slot level above 2nd.
